I was very productive today

On the other hand, those shells are friggin time-consuming to drill. If I got too hasty and tried to press down too hard or for too long, they kept breaking. The trick was to dip them in water to keep them cool, remove the dust, and keep me from getting impatient!

I am excited to work on the rest of them - it was so relaxing tonight to work on them with the Opera Lakme in the background.

And the best part...100% of the profits go into the dorrie fund. :D

James and I are still alive! Let me highlight some of the cool things that have happened since I last updated!

I went home for Thanksgiving and Christmas and had a blast (and sadly Leech, I was so busy I forgot to call ;_; I wasn't TOO upset because I accidentally forgot James at home and he's the star of the show anyways...)

For Christmas Nohbah got A DIGITAL REBEL! *highfives Leech* So this means lots of pictures.

New Year's was great - I spent it partying in Norfolk with Nick and Kristy, my two favorite people in the world to party with. We got all happy drunk and not a single person was hung over the next morning. Hoorah for top-shelf liquor!

And to top it all off, the three of us (sorry James, four) have moved into a lovely, spacious, home in Newport News. We have twice as much space as in the apartment for less money, it's in a great neighborhood, AND our house backs up on this really pretty tidal river. We're still decorating (I bought the bar two days ago, haha) but it's going to be so gorgeous and homey when it's done.

SO - in short, we now have (highspeed!) internet here, and things have calmed down from moving and all, so hopefully I'll have more time to check up on you guys (and start browsing forums again, ack!)

Will see you guys around!

James is here!! After one day of bitching that my camera battery was dead and I couldn't find the charger, another day of bitching because I didn't know about the super-macro mode on my camera, and one more day trying to edit and choose photos between working, here he is!!!

The rest of the shoot, for those interested parties, can be found here at Resinality or here at Den of Angels.

So today I entered a free faceup raffle, but for a doll that I don't actually have yet...I figured that if I won it's a sign that it was meant to be. If not, I may still buy it anyway. This is not a well thought out doll purchase, and I kind of hope that I do win the event, because then I'd definitely just buy the head saving me a lot of money at the moment. If I don't I may end up buying the whole doll, which does NOT save poor, broke me a lot of money.

Still no word on the shipment of Tiriel/Jamison/Jameson (Yeah, I'm waffling with his name. I'm not sure Tiriel-then is the same guy as Tiriel-now, and to be honest having a doll named after some hellagood Irish whiskey is sounding like a good idea.)

I have to leave for work in 10 minutes and I'm still sitting around in my bathrobe, glasses, and crazy bed hair.

But when I get home...I'm totally playing some more Lego Star Wars on the PS2.

Edited because I get really comma-happy sometimes.

Time:2:44 am.
Mood: bored.
Photo meme time! I'm kind of interested in testing the capabilities of the camera I have laying around here so I'll know what I've got at my disposal once Tir-chan gets here.

(Speaking of my Tiriel Jamison baby, he now officially has a pair of pants and two shirts. Shoes and some hair are next in line.)

BUT - feel free to request some photos from me, I've got the next two mornings off and I'd like an excuse to snap and upload some photos. (One exception. No photos of my bedroom. It's so boring and plain it's a waste of the damn internet to even upload it. Blank-walled room with a mattress in it. Big whoop.)

Subject:*Deep Breath*
Time:8:40 pm.
Mood: hopeful.
Music:Mystery ER.
Hi! Remember me?

After a little hiatus, I think that I'm ready to come back to BJD-land. I've spent the past two weeks or so perusing the dolly forums, posting, feeling things out, and making sure that I'm making the right decision. This past Monday I took a deep breath and jumped right in - I agreed to purchase Tir-chan and have slowly been collecting some bits for him (his first item of clothing arrived at the apartment today, and it was such a strange feeling to hold them in my hands and marvel at how large they were. I think I've forgotten the feel of a BJD in my hands.)

I've done a massive friendslist purge: people who are no longer active, whose journals don't really pertain to BJDs or who I simply don't know I've removed. If you feel you've been removed in error, definitely let me know - I do make mistakes...from time to time.

I'm nervous, impatient, giddy, excited, and worried about Tir coming home. Mostly I'm excited, I hope it won't be a long time until he shows up so I don't have to deal with this circus of emotions for too long! As far as other dolls go, I'm not thinking that far in advance. For the past year I've been unable to entirely stop thinking about Tiriel, about his resin-embodiment and how I'd want to have him. I'm glad that I finally took the plunge and I will finally have the opportunity to have Tir as I've always wanted him. (As I probably should have emobodied him on the first go-round.)

If you're curious about Tir's character, here's a detailed bio that's helping me pass the time until I hear about his progess in getting to me...
Cut for length: Tir's bio here. )

As far as Laz is concerned, I doubt I will ever reincarnate him. He was my first character and I was extremely attached to him, but he was also a huge emotional drain on me. His character is a lot to deal with mentally, takes up a lot of energy. The one thing that's always surprised me about my dolls, about my characters, is that they're rarely people that I'd like to be friends with in real life. Tiriel just isn't the type of person I'd hang out with, and Laz...well...he just turned bad toward the end. Not that I won't ever RP him again, Laz has his place as stress relief but he has ceased to be an entity that I care to carry around with me day to day.

So...thus begins the wait for Tir! I'm excited to be back in the "scene," to meet some new people and see how ABJDs have grown since I've last been deeply involved.

Ciao for now!

Time:8:52 pm.
Mood: annoyed.
I want to run this by you guys and get some reactions.

I posted in my private journal that amidst my terrible day today, I worked out my finances for the next three months:

Expenditures: $1,300 (Includes things I NEED to pay, like speeding ticket, phone battery, textbooks, and things I WANT such as to buy my friend Allison a bachlorette present, have spending money for Spring Break, a Duke Hat to wear to the Duke game on Feb. 1 etc. Nothing absolutely unnecessary like a new pair of pants or shoes or makeup.)

Income: Around $400

Big difference. Big. Huge. 900 dollars. The 400 alone would pay for my speeding ticket and one or two other minor bills.

So, the only reasonable solution I can come up with is to sell all my doll stuff.

All of it, including Kanoa.

While the idea does sadden me, I can only think: it's just Resin. Yes, selling him would make me feel like I was not being gracious to Soom, who so kindly gave him to me, but at the same time, Soom isn't going to revoke my license or further my education or show my friend Allison that I care for her.

I just don't want to post it all to DoA and have the masses gossip about how I could so coldheartedly sell such a wonderful present, and if THEY had won they would NEVER sell their precious doll. (And to those, I'd like to see a crossection of exactly how many are financially independent college students who work less than part time.)

So...thoughts? This would mean getting out of the hobby for me, possibly for good, since I don't see myself with a thousand dollars of disposable income that I would want to drop into a doll in the near future. I have other ideas for my life, like kayaking, travel, new cars and apartments and responsibilities.

I'm excited, but I don't know how I'm going to keep my head above water for these next couple months until I land a full-time job.

How much were the tickets when they were first released? $30. Stupid scalpers.

But you know what..I think it's worth it, I'm gonna go see MCR in two weeks and 3 days! AND ITS GONNA BE AWESOME, DANGIT.

Time:1:10 am.
To you people with Jrock scans -

All my scans are on my old comp, which is locked up in the closet at the moment. I'm looking for a picture of artists with lip rings...the kind that are a ring, but don't actually meet in the middle...ya know? I can't remember exactly who had them, but I need a couple reference shots...so anything would be helpful if you could send it my way!!

Thank you!

He's here!!!

World: meet Kanoa!

I apologize for the quality - these were taken with my Mac's built-in camera which doesn't allow much swing room for composition or setting. Hoping to steal the roomie's camera for a better photoshoot in a few days.

He's so gorgeous, and SO ASIAN! He looks a lot more mature to me than he does in the Soom photos. He's VERY skinny, especially when compared to the old Lazlo! He's so freaking adorable!! He needs his own style of clothes though...he doesn't seem like a black (picky) gothy rocker like Laz but he's having to make do for the moment.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Holy Crap, I won the naming contest for the new Soom boy!! :O

It's such an honor they liked my name the best out of over 350 entries from both Korea and overseas! I can't wait to bring Kanoa home - it's going to be so nice to have a smiling face here after selling Laz - and I'm stoked that I get to create a character from scratch!

Subject:NYC!
Time:9:46 pm.
I'm back from the Volks Tea Party and New York City!

It was so nice to finally meet friends from the 'net in real life - Rin, Janne, Nena, armeleia, digitalgrrl, etc. I got Laz's elastic replaced/tightened and talked with the very friendly Matsuo and Mrs. Hideyuki in the beauty salon - they were also VERY nice and sanded the seams on his legs and lower torso! The One-offs were amazing, I felt honored to just be able to see them. I wish I had had the money to put in for the Enn boy, but alas...

I did win bingo though! Haha, I was the last group to win, there were 10 initially which were pared down to 7 by drawing names. The names were put back in the bag and the first one drawn won the last Sei-Tenshi. Not me, but hey. I did get a lovely page reproduction from the "another yourself" book. (Initially I "picked" the Captain Cecil one, but I traded it for one of two Sakaki's snuggling...'cause you guys all know how much I love Sakaki.) The people at LGA DESTROYED it sending it through the x-ray machine for my carry-on luggage, but I think if I still get it matted you won't be able to tell where it was wrinkled.

The shopping was great, everyone was (amazingly) nicer and cooler in person than I ever thought, and all the dolls were gooorrrgeeous.

Tomorrow I will post all the pictures and videos...after I recover from wrenching my back from toting like 40 pounds of luggage across Manhattan, Harlem, and Queens and from the horridly scary flight back to Raleigh.

Time:9:36 pm.
Mood: frustrated.
So Laz may have no clothes for his New York debut...I ordered a LOVELY outfit for him on the 12th from this one company, and their policies stated that they take 2 days to process and ship orders.

They just shipped it TODAY.

Registered airmail. 1 to 2 weeks to arrive. I have 5 business days left until my plane leaves.

If Laz has to wear his same stupid clothes (he only has like 3 different shirts and 2 pairs of pants) to meet his maker (Haha) I'm going to be genuinely cheesed off. I emailed them asking what happened to delay it a full week.

Too late to order something else. Too broke.

Too broke because my car is going to cost $468 dollars to fix. So much for having some money to play with during the school year.

Anybody have "Laz" type clothes he can wear? ;_;

AUUUUGGGHHHAHAHA, It's an update!

No seriously, being a "grown-up" sucks. I love living on my own in the new apartment, but I had to sacrifice regular internet. *Sigh* It's only like 1 more month and I'll be back at school with internet EVERY DAY. HAH.

In the meantime, I got off my lazy tush (after trying to fix my car, no luck) and posted photos from Animazement back in May. Wow, I'm a slacker.

Rest are over at Den of Angels, of course, because I'm a slacker.

Subject change:
Things I have for the NY Tea Party Trip:
1.) New, awesome outfit for Laz to wear.
2.) Money for hostel for 3 nights.
3.) Money for food.
4.) RVSPed to event
5.) $10 entrance fee

Things I still need to get:
1.) Plane ticket
2.) Find invitation in piles of junk.
3.) Something for myself to wear
4.) More spending money.

Edit: Oh yeah, and zalem did you have any more thoughts about meeting up sometime Friday/Saturday/Sunday?

That was short, but I'm hot. And I'm CRAVING Mochi. AUGH.

I just really wanted to play with the boys today, so I snapped some shots of them in clothes that they would normally not wear and I think the stuff was quite cute. I wish I had some tall black socks for Laz in the Bat Shirt outfit, but otherwise the whole thing was squee-worthy (considering how not-long it took me to take them.) And I fully realize that there is still a photostory that I should be editing and posting but am not. Blah blah, sue me...I'm too lazy right now.
